South Texas College will create opportunities and growth in CS Education by providing K-12 educators with collaborative, rigorous, high quality and sustained professional development in computer science. Code/Interactive is providing an intensive professional development opportunity for 20 teachers from the Rio Grande Valley to prepare them to teach Scratch, ScratchJr. and Mobile CSP, a College Board endorsed provider of curriculum and professional development for AP Computer Science Principles (AP CSP) that has prepared hundreds of teachers across the country to teach computer science. Code/Interactive is actively seeking teachers from all districts in the STC Service Area, and teachers from any district are eligible to apply. Teachers from schools that serve high percentages of students who receive free or reduced-priced lunch will be given priority for participation in professional development. Prior to attending professional development, teachers will also attend the WeTeach_CS Summit and a scholarship will be paid to them through the grant. A stipend and continued support, during the school year, are also available for eligible teachers.
