The Vision of Region 3 Education Service Center is to be the preferred and most trusted provider for educational products and services that guarantee viable solutions. The program goals and strategies of the Region 3 Math Collaborative support the vision of Region 3 ESC. The program goal of the Region 3 Math Collaborative is to improve secondary math teachers’ content and instruction, focusing primarily on algebraic and proportional reasoning in the middle grades. Program outcomes will be measured by pre- and post-tests of teachers’ content knowledge, training evaluations, surveys, and participating teachers’ students’ results on STAAR 2018. The Region 3 Math Collaborative will serve secondary math teachers within the 39 districts of Region 3 and provide professional development to a minimum of 35 Math Teacher Mentors and 35 Cadre Members from May 1, 2017 through July 31, 2018. The professional development of MTMs will include at least 100 hours of training. In order to impact more students within Region 3, MTMs will be required to mentor at least one math teacher (cadre members) on their campus and provide documentation of 12 hours of mentoring. Region 3 Education Service Center in collaboration with the University of Houston-Victoria will be providing the professional development for the grant cycle. The major activities of the Region 3 Math Collaborative include: A Summer Institute with professional development on ELPS Strategies, Formative Assessment Lessons, Proportional Reasoning in Middle Grades, Walk the Line with CBRs and a training on the TI-84 SmartView CE Emulator and a summer book study. MTMs will also be required to attend 2 additional training days during the school year. Optional conferences that MTMs may attend include CAMT and the TRC Annual Meeting. In addition, MTMs will also have the opportunity to attend optional online course: Teaching Statistics Through Data Investigations. The Region 3 Math Collaborative will have a 6th and 8th Grade Math Immersion Project with at least 8 campuses participating. Improving 6th and 8th grade math content knowledge of math teachers through sustained professional development as well as improving instructional skill in the areas of 6th and 8th grade math is the focus of the immersion requirement.
